If I had a dollar for everytime someone asked me “are you back at work yet?” Since having my son, I’d probably have enough money that I wouldn’t need a business.

(Okay, I’d have at least two dollars)

And with my son starting junior kindergarten this fall, my mom even asked “are you going to get a job once he starts?”

Umm… I HAVE A JOB.

Much more than that actually. I have a booked out business (but more spots are opening in September 👌🏻) that pays my bills AND has allowed me to have stayed at home with my kids for so long.

As my kids get older and are going into pre-school and junior kindergarten (HOW?!), being at home is less and less of a necessity. But the idea of going back to a corporate job?

Terrifying.

I LOVE working for myself, with or without kids at home. My neurodiverse brain was never well suited to an office and the FREEDOM that comes with working for myself is unbelievable.

Freedom to do my work in the evening when my creativity 👩‍🎨 is at its highest.

Freedom to pivot my business in whichever direction my multi-passionate (er, neurodiverse 🧠) brain points me to next.

And I truly believe that if I can do this as an ADHD, stay-at-home mom of two…. You can too.

It’s been awhile since I’ve shown my face around here. I’ve been keeping my business on autopilot lately as our family gets ready for some big changes this fall - our oldest is entering junior kindergarten!

Little sis also goes off to preschool, which also brings on a big change in my business - three entire days a week without kids at home for me to work on my business 😱

Since the beginning, I’ve always worked around my kids schedules and naps and while I LOVE that it lets me stay at home with them.. there are some things I’ve wanted to bring into my business that just can’t be done in one or two hour chunks of time.

Can’t wait to share what this means - but I’ll give you a hint… more spacing for branding and web design projects!! Including some more intensive, shorter timeline options.

I started my business on a whim back in 2018 (thank you, undiagnosed ADHD 🤪) and it set me on the path I had always dreamed of - working for myself so I could be home with my kids.

While I’m a graphic + web designer now, way back in the day my dream as a kid was to open my own candy store. Despite not having said candy story (yet…), ten-year-old me would still be proud to know I’m in business for myself.

Because it was never about what I was doing - it was about the freedom to be doing things my way.

Freedom to do my work in the evening when my creativity 👩‍🎨 is at its highest.

Freedom to pivot my business in whichever direction my multi-passionate (er, neurodiverse 🧠) brain points me to next.

Freedom push my work to later in the day to take my kid to one of his many appointments and activities (even if that’s just a fun day at the museum 🏰).

Freedom to be in charge of my own income and don’t have to worry that taking yet another sick day for my kids 🤒 might result in losing my income.

Freedom to take Friday’s off just because.

Now in my business, I help other mamaprenurs do the exact same thing. Whether through 1:1 graphic + web design support, templates + design assets or coaching, my vision is to help empower any parent who wants to create their own business from home.

It’s changed my life in the best way, and seeing others go through the same transformation brings me so much joy 🥰

How long did it take you to start feeling like you

How long did it take you to start feeling like yourself again after having your kid(s)?

With my first, it was around 3 months.. but the second? We’ve just come up to 16 months old and I finally feel like I’m starting to shift back into focus on myself, my biz, and my goals… at least until we all get sick again 😅

I know it’s just a short, short season of my life where everything will be determined by my kids but I’m already feeling all sorts of ways about my oldest going off to kindergarten this fall. On one hand, that opens up so much time for my business but on the other hand… woof, time is a their and I’m not ready.

No matter what, even on the tough days with all the sick kids at home… I wouldn’t trade my business for the world. It allows me the best kind of flexibility while my kids are so young and that means more to me than I can put into words.

It’s not all that passive.

Yes, you can create a product once and sell it on repeat. While you’re sleeping, or dropping your kid off at school.

But there’s also cost involved💰💰💰

Investing in an email marketing platform. Fees from payment processors. Subscriptions to whoever you host your product. Domains. Hosting.

Even Etsy is charing a $15 fee to sign up now!

Then there’s the time involved.

Creating the product. Marketing the product. Updating the product. Customer service emails.

Digital products and passive income really aren’t all that passive.

With my Etsy shop, the more work I spend on it - creating new products, promoting my listings, showing up and putting the effort in… the more sales I see that month.

So technically, yes, that means I’m earning money while I drop my kid off at school.

But what about the many hours I put into creating the product listings, too?

For me.. as a stay at home mom.. the FLEXIBILITY in digital products is really what pulls me in.

It’s the freedom of creativity + FUN 😍 I have creating products.

The #1 “hack” that has helped me be more productive as a work from home mom?

Getting dressed everyday.

It’s not a new or groundbreaking hack by any means, people have said it for years. But I resisted.

I like my pyjamas. I like being comfy. Why bother getting dressed if I didn’t have plans to leave the house?

When you look good and put together, you *feel* good and put together. And you just get more done. Or maybe it just makes it less comfortable to laze around on the couch 😂

If you’re been resistant to get out of comfy clothes, I challenge you to try it for a week and see the difference it makes. And I’m not talking changing out of pjs into leggings - go for jeans or even a dress! (With pockets though, cause we are still moms and need to carry stuff around with us)

What’s the secret to how I did it, you ask? 😉

I worked three times the amount I usually do, taking on extra one-off projects and additional work for one of my 1:1 clients - all while still still doing my usual workload for the rest of my clients + my digital products (and parenting two kids).

It wasn’t from digital products.

Nor did it come to my in my sleep or while dropping my toddler off at preschool.

I worked hard for it.

In this online world, it’s easy to fall down a scrolling rabbit hole where all you see are people talking about how much they made from passive income, or MLMs, or PLRs, or this and that. I’ve talked about it myself!

One thing I want to remind you of is that there is no shame in continuing 1:1 work (or a full time job) while you build up your passive income streams. Sure, it would be great if we could all earn $100k in our sleep from one single product selling on repeat (and that IS possible…) but it takes time to get there.

While I’d love to be coming to you today with a new product to sell (because I have been sloooowly working away at new stuff behind the scenes…), I love even more that I still have reliable client work to pay my bills. Personally, that 3x income really helped us out this month as we are in the midst of a 💸💸💸 home renovation and any extra helps.

My 1:1 graphic design business started as a side-hustle, and now it’s my full time work. Right now, my digital products are now the side-hustle and will hopefully one day be my main income. Just takes a little time and effort (which is something a lot of “gurus” on the internet don’t always share).

I started my business by accident 🙈

Sounds a little bizarre, right? Back in January of 2018, I was having a really bad day at my corporate job (something that happened often, no matter what job I had) and saw a post in a Facebook group looking for help with email marketing.

Email marketing was part of my full-time job as a marketing coordinator, so I could definitely do it for someone else.

I didn’t have a website.

I didn’t have any official services.

I had no pricing structure set up.

But I secured my very first client.

That client kickstarted my entire business - and I still work with her to this day!

I had no idea how to run a business, promote myself, or even just how to send an invoice and collect payment - I figured it out as I went.

Fast forward six years, and I now work around naptime while spending my days with my two precious kiddos - my dream come true.

I had no idea when I replied to that Facebook post so many years ago that it would lead to my dream life down the line. I’m so thankful for that impulsive decision on that day 🤪

“It’s not about getting more done - it’s about choosing to spend your time on the right things.”

Sometimes this means stopping yourself and asking “do I really need to be working on this right now?” When you get sucked into something that wasn’t even on your todo list.

Or forcing yourself to take a pause on your passion project for a day when you actually have a house that needs to be cleaned.

Think of it this way - If you’re exhausted and just need a little break, taking a 20 minute nap is going to be more productive for you than pushing through 20 extra minutes of work where you don’t *really* get anything done. That nap is actually what you *need* right now.

Don’t get me wrong - I am absolutely grateful, in love with my life, and would not change it for the world.

But it has nothing to do with luck.

It has to do with a lot of dreaming, and planning.

It has to do with a lot of hard work, and a little bit of sacrifice.

It has to do with my desire to be at home with my kids. It has to do with a skill I honed, developed into a business, and grew into what it is today.

Could I stay at home with my kids without working? Probably, but not with the lifestyle we want for our family. And with a lot more stress about money.

I’m grateful every single day for my kids, my business, and my lifestyle. I’m lucky to have the kids I do, but my business is pure hard work 💪🏻

I think we’ve been sick at least 500 times since

I think we’ve been sick at least 500 times since September. (It’s not even daycare germs! Patient Zero is always the second child who won’t stop putting her mouth all over the grocery cart 🤨)

But what I love about the work I do, and who I work with (other moms in business)… is that everyone gets it.

I move things around, work a little more after bedtime, and do the best that I can.

Getting to be at home and cuddled up with my sick kids… WITHOUT having to worry that taking yet another sick day for my kids might result in losing my income, or about getting fired from a full time job over it (yep - it happens to many moms) 😬…

That’s exactly why I started my business.

It’s exactly why I don’t mind if I sometimes work on the weekends to catch up.

It’s exactly why I want to empower every other mom to be able to do the same if she wants to.
