5 Work from Home Business Ideas for Moms

If you’re a stay-at-home parent looking to start a business from home with your kids – look no further! Today I’m sharing five work from home business ideas for moms, and they are all ones that you can do with your kids at home!

Even before I had my son in 2020, I always knew that I wanted to have the option to stay home with my kids when the day came. Despite that, I also knew that I wanted to keep doing creative things that kept my brain happy. I didn’t get into graphic design just because – I’ve loved it since I was a teenager making glittery quote graphics to share with my friends so it wasn’t something I wanted to give up when I had kids.

But I also couldn’t imagine spending 40 hours a week in a corporate job (though this was the same even before kids, tbh 😅) and working just to pay for my kids daycare bill.

So… what was I do to? Start a business from home, obviously!

As a graphic designer, it was pretty easy to start picking up freelance clients – I actually started before I even had kids! But there are SO MANY different online business ideas for moms, even if you aren’t a graphic designer. Without further ado – let’s dive into the five best home-based businesses for moms.

1. Become a 1:1 Service Provider!

This could be any number of things – virtual assistant, copywriter, photographer, social media manager, business or life coach, graphic designer – the list goes on and on! This can be one of the best home-based businesses for moms because you can work in smaller chunks of time whenever you have time available as long as you get your tasks done before the deadlines.

You could be a virtual assitant, copywriter, graphic designer, coach, social media manager – there are SO MANY options for service providers, just about any skill you have can be monetized and niched down to get 1:1 clients.

2. Sell Digital Products Online

If you don’t love the idea of working closely with clients, selling digital products may be more suited for you! It works very well around kids schedules as you can work on new products and your business as a whole on your own time, without factoring in any outside deadlines.

You could sell: printable art, digital templates (think wedding and birthday invitations), planners (budget or meal planners), learning resources, and so many more.

As with any business, there will be some customer service tasks involved – making sure users can access their products, answering questions before they buy, and even doing custom jobs if you want. You can set up the shop and run it with very little effort, though I do find that on the weeks I am putting more into my Etsy store – uploading new products, adjusting older listings, etc – I start seeing more income from my Etsy store. You get out of it what you put into it.

3. Sell Physical Products Online

Do you have a creative hobby like sewing, painting, or anything else that you could start selling online? You can start a shop selling your physical products!  If you don’t want to have to create the products yourself or manage shipping, you can use a Print on Demand partner to handle that for you and spend your time creating + promoting your products.

There can be more of an investment involved in this to develop the products, get samples, promote your products, etc. but it is wonderful to physically see products that you have created come to life!

4. Create Online Courses or Memberships

This is a favorite for teachers! You can take any knowledge you have, turn it into a course and sell it on repeat. As a web designer, I’ve created a course for service providers to create their own website so you can get super niche with this. This also works really well when paired with being a 1:1 service provider, as you can create education around the work you do, such as walking beginners how to do what you do. Memberships work in a very similar way, just offering education and/or niched resources for a monthly cost.

As with pretty much all of these streams… the options are endless! You can get super, super niched with this and create a mini ecosystem of educational products to sell online.

5. Become a Content Creator

If you have one topic you’re super interested in or passionate about, this is for you! It could be home decor, DIY projects, food, anything at all. This is not at all limited to social media! Bloggers were the OG content creators, so it works even if you prefer written content and staying off video.

Rather than specific sales, your income then comes from ad revenue, affiliate payments and brand partnerships.
