Why I’m Switching from MailerLite to Flodesk

For as long as I’ve been running my business (which started in 2018!) I’ve been using MailerLite for my email marketing. But as my business grows and companies make changes to their plans + platforms, I’ve been reevaluating the tech stack behind my business and making changes where needed. The next big change I’m making? Switching from MailerLite to Flodesk for my email marketing. Read on to find out why I’m making the change seven+ years into my business.

Truthfully, email marketing has never been my strong suit. My list is on the smaller side, I’m inconsistent with sending emails, and I really don’t use it to it’s full potential.. all of which plays into why MailerLite has been a great platform for me! I’ve been able to scale my list back to fit under their (previously) 1,000 subscriber limit to remain on the free plan at times, which worked great during a slower season of my business. Now that both of my kids are in school full-time, one of my goals is to focus more on my email marketing both to grow my email list, and to send emails to my subscribers regularly. Part of this is overhauling my evergreen emails and lead magnet workflows, so if I am going to be making a ton of changes to my email marketing anyways, it just makes sense to reassess if my current platform is the right fit.

In my one-on-one client work, I have had the pleasure of working with a diverse range of clients who use various email platforms. I’ve worked with just about every platform there is, which has given me hands-on experience using every platform. I’ve worked with:

MailerLite

MailChimp

Flodesk

Kit (formerly ConvertKit)

Constant Contact

HubSpot

• and more I’m probably forgetting!

This background has made it much easier for me to make a decision on a new platform because I know firsthand what features I like about each, which has a great user experience, what the plan limits are like, and so much more. I don’t need to set up a trial plan and recreate the same automation seven different times to try out all of the platform options… I’ve already spent years doing that for my clients.

So.. why am I leaving MailerLite?

Excellent question!

Free plan limits are changing. Over the last year+, I have consistently culled my list of inactive subscribers to remain below the 1,000 free subscribers limit. MailerLite was one of the few platforms that gave you full access to automations on the free plan, which made it a great started platform to build out my list… and then I just never left. As of September 2025, their free plan limit is now 500 subscribers so no matter what with this change, I was going to have to be paying for my email marketing plan.

Email editor is glitchy and just okay. As a designer, it’s not one of my favorite platforms to create emails in. It’s fine and especially great for beginners, but I’m looking for the ability to put a bit more of my own flair + branding into my emails.

Not a stellar affiliate program. This one isn’t a dealbreaker by any means, but it’s a pretty basic referral program – $20 off for the new sign up, and you get a $20 credit to your account. Can be great to keep your plan costs lower, but there are much better affiliate programs out there for email marketing. Kit for example gives you 50% of the purchase total for an entire year (veruses the one time credit of MailerLite). With affiliate marketing, you are going to be able to more naturally promote the products you’re actually using each and every day so this can make a difference!

Pricing will continue to go up as my list grows. I know this is very standard with email marketing, but it’s frustrating as someone still growing their list! It’s hard to budget for if you don’t know what growth you will have, and you often end up paying for a lot of subscribers you don’t have yet*.* Plans jump from 1,000 subscribers to to 2,500 up to 5,000 after that, so you’re paying more to have 1,001 – 2.499 subscribers than you really need to.

Why am I choosing to Move to Flodesk?

Beautiful email design possibilities. As a designer, I can always tell when I get an email that was designed in Flodesk! Their templates are beautiful, and you have so many more layouts and options to choose from, and you can even upload your brand fonts to use them in your emails!

Unlimited subscriber plan. This is not the only reason of course, but a big factor – I love that they have a plan where the price will say consistent no matter how many subscribers you have! BUT – this plan is going away on November 28th, 2025 which is why I’m investing in the switch now to lock in that pricing. You can still get lifetime access to unlimited subscribers if you sign up before November 29th, 2025.

50% off the first year. When you sign up with an affiliate link, you save 50% off your first year – a huge savings of $209! I was able to sign up with a link from one of my design clients so this is a big savings, making it a less expensive platform for the first year than MailerLite’s Advanced plan.

Decent affiliate program. $19 per referral AND the person you refer gets 50% off their plan for a year. I much prefer an affiliate program that just pays out instead of offering credits, so it makes it much easier to promote Flodesk. You can use my affiliate link here to save 50% off your first year!

I want to invest in my email marketing system. It’s one of my business goals to grow my list and make email marketing more of a priority for my overall business plan. For my ADHD brain, not paying for my email marketing platform has in a lot of ways led me to completely ignore it. By paying for Flodesk, I’m much more likely to try getting everything I can out of my yearly fee.

Of course, switching email providers is not a small task! For a few months, I’ll be paying for two platforms while I move everything over and reorganize my entire email marketing system ON TOP OF all of my regular client and business work. It’s a big undertaking! And if you don’t have experience doing it, it can feel like a daunting undertaking. I have migrated clients on a variety of platforms and it’s really not something that ever gets easier to do.

Moving plans might not be for everyone. I invite you to take some time to consider your current business tech setup and how well it’s working for you! Is there a better system out there that could do more for your business? It’s always worthwhile to reassess your tech systems on a yearly basis as your business changes and grows so that you’re not overpaying for things you no longer need, or missing out on other options that suit your business better.

While a move from MailerLite to Flodesk is the right decision for my business at this time, the right platform is different for every business! Just because it’s the right choice for me doesn’t mean you need to hop on board to Flodesk immediately. Your business deserves a tech setup that feels simple, seamless, and totally YOU.
